When Encore Experiences renovated its kitchen in 2009, congregate dining as seniors knew it changed forever. Between 2009 and 2010, the congregate meal program, now called “Special of the Day”, revived as a hub to more than 1200 active participants. These participants may stop in fitness programs, life-long learning experiences, or come because we offer an exciting day trip or weeklong excursion. Once they are here and comfortable, they begin to take advantage of other programs, and ask for information and referrals from the social services coordinator.
Encore Experiences aims to keep older adults fully integrated into the community by providing a home base for fitness, healthy food, social interactions and mental engagement. Research shows these activities increase the amount of time they can live independently—and out of institutions.
The payback to our community goes beyond individual quality of life and taxpayer cost. Our participants each year log 3,000 or more hours in volunteer work given back to our larger community.
Baby Boomers have revolutionized their approach to each stage of their lives, and the 55+ years are no different. They don’t see themselves as senior citizens and they know they have decades more life expectancy than did their grandparents. Encore Experiences aims to meet the unique needs of this long-lived generation while also serving the still older, frailer, Traditionalist Generation.
Since 2007, the Board of Directors, executive director, staff, volunteers, and community partners at Encore Experiences have revamped a fading program into a vibrant and exciting program for the entire community. Annual growth in each strategic area has exceeded projections two years running. The program revolves around traditional senior center services, and then, it adds innovation.
